4 days on an island with the art class. 2 Mariannes (M&M). No running water. No phones. The same 30 people. It's safe to say we all went a little crazy. We may or may not have created a new country. Long live Tuvakistan!!!
All right, buckle up. This is gonna be a hefty post, I have a lot to say. Picture this, Monday morning, Annika crawls out of bed at the buttcrack of dawn. 7:00am. She pries open her eyes and stumbles to help load the bus. There are a few things you should know about this trip. First of all, there is no running water on the island. There used to be running water, but last year, the students used up all of the water in the tank. So instead, we brought 20 5L containers of water purely for drinking, and we had to boil water from a pump for EVERYTHING else. It was quite a hassle. In addition, we had to hand our phones over at the beginning, and they were left at the school. After loading the bus, we ate breakfast with the rest of the school and we were off! A 35-minute bus ride and we arrived at a harbor. here comes the fun part. After making Keegan buy me ice cream, the first and second boat left with most of the students. I was on the 3rd boat. The boats cannot be described. So here is a picture.

We kinda straddle the seats, it was an interesting ride.

After arriving on the island, we had to carry everything all the way up to the lighthouse. We stayed in a house right next to the lighthouse.

The functioning lighthouse! We stayed in the little white house on the right. |

Here she is again up close. |
There were 3 bedrooms, 2 with girls and 1 with guys. These rooms had 3 level bunk beds, very fun. It was really beautiful weather for the first two days, sunny and blue with a little bit of wind. So we did some light hiking. But first, kitchen duty was assigned. Kitchen duty proved to be grueling, as we ran out of water very fast, but that will come later. That first evening, the kitchen people made chicken outside on the grill and a ton of pasta salad. We had so many leftovers. Now, like I said, we did lots of hiking and I got some beautiful pictures. We watched the sunset from the highest rocks, also beautiful.

Because we had no water for the toilet, boys had to pee outside. Hence this lovely sign. |

Tuva!!! |
Marianne and Marianne brought us to a sort of secret beach area where we sang and sang and sang. This is something I've discovered about Norwegians. They sure do like to sing. Whether it's over dinner, at morning assembly, at a secret beach, or at the beginning of class. As someone who loves singing, I think it's great.
Let's move on to day 2. M&M woke anyone who wanted to go see the sunrise at 6:30ish. We hiked up to a pyramid structure on the top of one of the hills to watch the sunrise over the horizon. We had a stunning view. The perfect way to start a day.
Alright, this post ends here. Hopefully, there will be another by tomorrow!
Norway is awesome who doesn’t love to sing !!!
ReplyDeleteAnnika, I’m sure I speak for many when I say that just because I don’t leave a comment on all of your posts doesn’t mean I don’t love them, read every word, and enjoy the vicarious adventure!
