Daily Life!

Image
Back at the beginning of the month, we had a very interesting visit from a group of musicians. They played a short concert for us in the Aula on a Thursday after breakfast. It was lively folk music. They had people playing violin, viola, cello, stand-up base, accordion, and clarinet. They also had a famous Norwegian actor as a guest singer. It was fun and crazy and super weird. I loved it. A perfect was to start a Thursday.  I wish I could upload a video, but this is the best I can do. They were super expressive and excited to be there. It was super fun :)  I’ve been making a lot of carrot cake. I wish I could tell you why, but it’s become an addiction. So every once in a while I make a huge carrot cake and my friends and I all dig in with forks. Helena has a special liking for my cake😏😂.  I meant to post this like a week ago, but here is a thrilling update on my carrot cake addiction. Enjoy haha

Oslo Trip - Day 1

Image
Hei Hei!  The NLC class got home from a 3 day trip to Oslo! It was fun and we were lucky enough to get sunny, crisp weather. Last Wednesday we got up bright and early and took an 8am train to Oslo. It was a beautiful, cross country trip. Super fun actually! I slept most of the way so it went by quick. We got off the train in Oslo central station and began making our way to the hostel we were staying at. We stopped at an Indian restaurant for a buffet which was delicious. After a quick walk through the sculpture garden next to the royal palace, we arrived at the hostel and got settled into our rooms. We met at the National Theatre at 3pm to see a play/musical. It was fun, but made for kids so not super entertaining. But the actual building is really cool and has some crazy paintings in it. Pictures to follow!  There is a small sculpture garden in the park surrounding the castle. Each of the sculptures was drawn by a k The NLC class eating lunch at an Indian restaurant. International Food and Carrot Cake

Image
Every other Wednesday we have International Mat (International Food). This is a required thing for all NLC students, but the Norwegians can choose if they want to help or not. The NLC students group into our respective countries and make typical food from home for the whole school. So far we've had Mexican, German, and USA food. Us Americans gathered in the kitchen around 5 and began cooking. We made baked mac and cheese, caesar salad, and hot dogs. Kind of a weird combination, but it is comfort food for us. Making food for 100 people is pretty difficult and time-consuming. It becomes even more so when we need to figure out how to make vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options as well. We had a couple of failed attempts with the dairy substatutes, but it all worked out in the end. Here are some pictures of the process.  Here is one of those failed attempts... Keegan vigorously stirring the cheese sauce.  Noah making bacon bits for the salad. Erik working on the lovely

Halloweeeeeen

Hei Hei! Once again it's been a while! But let's recap some stuff from the last few weeks. So obviously Halloween was this past weekend. The student council was in charge of planning some activities for the weekend, and so we had horror-ish movies showing all day on Saturday. The Saturday seminar was called Magic History, and it was basically Harry Potter-themed. They made wands, got sorted, and lots of other stuff. I heard it was actually so much fun. I didn't go because I was in Kristiansand with a few friends to celebrate Lukas's birthday. Lukas is a huge fan of tattoos, and if you know me, I am too. So we went to a parlor called Loose Cannon and both got tattoos on Saturday morning! Lukas got 3, and I just got one. It's a jellyfish or a medusa as the artist called it (i got super confused and thought he was talking about the woman with snake hair). Here's a picture! It's still healing so it is a little dry and crusty. Also, it is on my left lower arm.  I
